Set up Wallet expense capture
TripTally can prepare an expense when you tap a selected Wallet card at a supported contactless terminal. It reads the transaction amount, currency, merchant, and card details for your review.
Before you start
Use an iPhone with iOS 27 and the latest TripTally version. Sign in, select a trip, and make sure the payment card is in Wallet.
Set up the automation
- In TripTally, open Profile → Automations → Apple Pay / Wallet. Tap Set up Apple Pay to open Shortcuts.
- Tap Add Shortcut to add Wallet to TripTally.
- Open Automation in Shortcuts. Review the card, category, and merchant filters, then turn on the automation.
Keep one matching Wallet automation enabled. Allow it to run while locked only if that is part of your setup; some actions may still need the device to be unlocked.
Share Text and Add Expense
TripTally Share Text
In TripTally, open Profile → Automations → Share Sheet and tap Add Shortcut. Confirm in Shortcuts. Share one transaction's text from another app, choose TripTally Share Text, then review and save the expense. Text extraction needs Apple Intelligence.
TripTally Add Expense
In TripTally, open Profile → Automations → Siri & Shortcuts and tap Add Shortcut. Confirm in Shortcuts. Run it with Siri, the Action button, Back Tap, or the Shortcuts app, then enter the expense details and save.
Review each expense
With Create expense directly off, TripTally opens the prepared expense for review. When it is on, Shortcuts asks for required details and shows a review card. Check the expense and tap Save. Cancel discards the capture.
TripTally uses a supported currency supplied by Wallet. If the currency is missing, it uses your expense defaults. If Wallet supplies a currency TripTally cannot use, select a supported currency before saving.
Category suggestions need Apple Intelligence and may be unavailable. Check the details before saving.
Need help?
If a shortcut does not open from TripTally, download it here. Open the downloaded file and tap Add Shortcut in Shortcuts. For Wallet, review the filters and turn on the automation after adding it.
The automation asks for an amount
The Wallet trigger supplies the transaction. Running the shortcut by itself has no Wallet transaction to capture. Start it from the Wallet automation.
No expense appears
Check the selected cards and other filters, confirm the automation is enabled, and open TripTally to review the capture.
